  1. INSTALLATION AND IMAGE DISPLAY:  
  2.  
  3. MYTHIC BEARS v1.5 for WIN 95 and WIN 3.1+
  4.  
  5. 1) INSTALLATION
  6.  
  7.    a) Make certain you are in Windows. The installation program
  8.    will not run in DOS. Be certain that you are in the proper OS,
  9.    either Windows 3.1+ or Windows 95, if you run a double boot
  10.    system.

  14.    b) Put Disk 1 (or the shareware disk) into your floppy drive.
  15.    In Windows 3.1+ from Program Manager's File Menu choose the 
  16.    Run option. Type a:\setup.exe or b:\setup.exe, depending upon 
  17.    whether a or b is the letter assigned to your 3.5" diskette 
  18.    drive. Click on OK.
  19.  
  20.    c) Alternatively, open the directory and file display for
  21.    your floppy drive, or working directory wherein you unzipped 
  22.    the shareware archive, and double click on setup.exe.  
  23.

  26.    d) From the Start Menu choose Settings ... Control Panel ...
  27.    Add/Remove Software. The installation wizard will find setup.exe 
  28.    on your floppy disk. Alternatively you can use Explorer to 
  29.    access the floppy disk, or directory where you unzipped the 
  30.    shareware archive, and double click on setup.exe.
  31.    
  32. 2) Either accept the default path and directory for installation or 
  33.    edit to your own specifications. Choose whether or not to install 
  34.    MYTHIC BEARS as the default screen saver in the Desktop 
  35.    Item of the Control Panel. 
  36.  
  37.    Notice that the word 'default' in the dialog is confusing. 
  38.    If you choose this option, MYTHIC BEARS will be installed as 
  39.    just one of your screen saver choices under the name MINICAT in 
  40.    the proper alphabetical position. However, it will become the active 
  41.    screen saver immediately. If you do not enable this installation 
  42.    option, MYTHIC BEARS will still be installed as a screen saver 
  43.    option but will not be active until deliberately enabled by you. 
  44.    See 'Your  Windows Screen Saver" in the album for information 
  45.    about MYTHIC BEARS as a screen saver and how to configure it.

  47. 3) The installation will create a program group called MINICAT
  48.    with a single item in it also called MINICAT. You may change
  49.    the name of this icon to MYTHIC BEARS if you wish but there 
  50.    are reasons not to do so as explained in the manual.

  52. 4) Double Click upon the MINICAT icon and the opening screen of
  53.    MINICAT is displayed. Notice the long horizontal button in the 
  54.    right window which is labeled MYTHIC BEARS. Click on this bar 
  55.    and you will be presented with the MYTHIC BEARS album main 
  56.    screen.

  58.    If you pause at this opening screen for several seconds, 
  59.    a slide show of all images in the album will begin in the left
  60.    hand window. Notice that you can exit the program from this 
  61.    opening screen using the Exit Button. See the manual within
  62.    the Media Album for additional instructions.

  64. 5) IMAGE QUALITY: SUPER IMPORTANT!! DON'T SKIP THIS!!
  65.  
  66.    a) To view these images with all the brilliance and resolution they 
  67.    contain, set your monitor for 24 bit (16 million colors) if at all
  68.    possible. They look OK at a monitor setting of 256 colors but not 
  69.    superb. If you enable these images as a screen saver, they will look 
  70.    best at 640 x480 because the images then occupy most of the screen 
  71.    area.

  73.    b) Unless you have an old pre-1990 monitor, you already have 
  74.    installed software to change the resolution of monitor. Such 
  75.    software comes with all graphics cards and is preinstalled 
  76.    when you buy a computer in the retail market. I cannot give 
  77.    specifics here for the dozens of different graphics cards on 
  78.    the market. If you haven't discovered this monitor utility, which 
  79.    will be a Windows applet, consult the manual that came with 
  80.    your graphics card. If you lost it, call the store where you 
  81.    bought the computer or the manufacturer of the computer.

  83. 6) Our E-text catalog (ASCII) does not install: it remains on your disk 
  84. or in the directory within which you unzipped the shareware. This file 
  85. is too large to be handled by Notepad in Windows 3.1+ or Texto'LE in 
  86. Windows 95. In Windows 3.1+, open it in your word processor or a text 
  87. editor. In Windows 95, open it in a word processor or Word Pad.
